Jon and Vangelis - The Friends of Mr. Cairo - 1981 - Don't really know where this one came from.  He is the guy who did the Chariots of Fire soundtrack and the Jon guy was in Yes.  That doesn't seem to be a lot to recommend an album from.

Gino Vannelli - Brother to Brother - 1978 - Another joke birthday present.  If you ever need to know what sucked about 70s music and only have about 40 minutes to do your research, this would be a good place to find that out. "I just wanna stop, and tell you what I feel about you, babe."

The Vapours - New Clear Days - 1980 - Yeah, they had that Turning Japanese song, but the rest of this album is really good new wave stuff.  Standouts are Sixty Second Interval, Waiting For the Weekend, and Letter From Hiro.

The Vapours - Turning Japanese/Talk Talk Single - 1980 - A Japanese sounding riff in a song about mastrabation.  What is not to love here?

Alan Vega - Video Babe 12" Single - 1983 - He was the singer from Suicide.  This is a pretty good song.  Kind of minimalist keyboard rockabilly.

Alan Vega - On the Run 12" Single - 1985 - A couple of years later and this one is really bland and kind of boring.

Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega - This is a pretty enjoyable album.  It is kind of folk new-wave.

Velocity Girl - Simpatico - 1994 - Noisy pop on SubPop. Apparently, this isn't their best album, but most of this is pretty good.

Velvet Monkeys - Future - 1983 - They say their two heroes musically are the Velvet Underground and The Monkees.  When you first hear this, you think that it is just your standard 60s kind of stuff with lots of Farfisa organ in it.  If you listen closely, there is a whole lot of noise and stuff going on underneath that.  Really cool stuff.  They also toured as the backing band for Jad Fair and Half Japanese.

Velvet Monkeys - Colors Part I&II Single - 1985 - Kind of a noisy 60s psychedilicia type thing.  Pretty good song.

The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico - 1967 - Such a classic album.  These guys influenced probably just about band I really like.  Everything from really noisy stuff, like European Son and Heroin to pretty songs, like Sunday Morning and All Tomorrow's Parties.

The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat - 1968 - If you listen to stuff like the Sex Pistols now, it sounds really tame compared to someone like Ministry or White Zombie, but I take great comfort from knowing that 30 years after they recorded Sister Ray, it is still as harsh as ever.  This is the first noise/industrial album and it is really great.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground - 1969 - This one is much more melodic and folksy.  Lots of great stuff like Candy Says, What Goes On and Pale Blue Eyes.

The Velvet Underground - Loaded - 1970 - Their final album.  Lots of classic stuff like Sweet Jane, Rock And Roll and Who Loves The Sun.

The Velvet Underground - Live At Max's Kansas City - 1972 - Pretty good live show from them.  Good set with stuff like Waiting For The Man, Sweet Jane, Pale Blue Eyes, etc.

The Velvet Underground - V.U. - 1984 - A record from the vaults (from 1968-69).  Really great stuff that never got released originally like Ocean, Lisa Says, and Stephanie Says.

The Velvet Underground - Another View - 1986 - More stuff from the vaults.  This one is not as good.  Lots of alternative versions of released songs and songs that are not as strong as the other albums.

The Velvet Underground - Everything You've Heard About - An interesting collection of all sorts of rare Velvet Underground things. Songs from early Lou Reed bands like The Card Lou Trio, The Shades, The All Night Workers, The Primitives, The Beach Nuts, Roughnecks, and much more. Some Velvet Underground stuff like flexi singles from books and magazines from the time.

The Ventures - The Very Best of the Ventures - 1975 - Everybody needs a bunch of great 60s surf songs and they did a lot of them like Walk Don't Run, Wipe Out, and Tequila.

Verdi - Otello - Live at Buell Theater, Denver Nov 2, 1991 - Opera Colorado - This is a radio broadcast of this opera.  We had seen this the week before and I was pretty excited to hear it again.

The Verve - Urban Hymns - 1997 - This is Lindsey's.  I haven't heard much except for Bitter Sweet Symphony, which I liked.

The Vibrators - Pure Mania - 1976 - One of the classic albums of English punk.  Great stuff all around.

Village People - Macho Man/Key West Single - 1978 - Classic disco.  A description I saw of the Village People that I thought was really great was "Kiss for grownups."

Village People - Macho Man - 1978 - Is there anything better than disco on 8-track, well probably. Macho Man and Key West are on this.

Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes - 1982 - Their classic first album.  Acoustic punk.  For some reason, this stuff has been begin played on the radio lately.  The classic songs are Blister in the Sun, Add It Up, and Prove My Love.

Violent Femmes - Ugly/Gimme the Car Single - 1983 - This is a pretty amusing couple of songs from them.

Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground - 1984 - This one seems way over produced.  They have gotten way into folk and gospel here.  Songs are pretty good, but not up to the quality of the first one.

Violent Femmes - The Blind Leading the Naked - 1986 - It sounds like they are really aiming for the charts with this one.  It isn't all that great and it missed the charts by a long shot too.  Some of it like Old Mother Reagan and No Killing are ok.

Vivaldi - The Four Seasons - Wurttemberg Chamber Orchestra - Jorg Faerber - This is one of my favorite classical music things.

Volcano Suns - The Bright Orange Years - 1985 - After the breakup of Mission of Burma, Peter Prescott continued to make loud music.  This is a pretty good set of songs.

Volcano Suns - Sea Cruise/Greasy Spine Single - 1986 - Out of the breakup of Mission of Burma, came a number of bands.  This is one.  Much in the noisy tradition of Burma.
