The Stories
At present we have three stories running. Feel free to read
and contribute to them all. Just make sure to stick to the particular
format of the individual story.
- The story that inspired this all in my little mind.
Initially meant as a decent story, I wrote the first three sentences,
looked at it and nearly collapsed in hysterics and shame. This one
should not be treated as badly as the other stories. Work with it,
do it decently if you feel like it, romp through it harshly if you
wish, but keep the bad writing toned down a bit. This one still has
some potential (though I worked hard to kill that as I went onward
with it). A bit of evil to start your day. For the moment we'll keep
it Untitled
- While the last one asks that you write until you can write no
more, this one is somewhat more restrictive. I once read a
compilation (put together by book editors) of the worst examples of
prose they'd received over the past year. Not a single example on the
list exceeded two sentences, but they gave me some of the best laughs
of my life (or for similar inspiration, check out the "Bulwer-Lytton
Contest" as seen in the It Was a Dark and Stormy Night series
. Let's try to do something like that here, but with some bit of
linkage between the submissions. Take it from where you find it and
write it as badly as possible. Throw in whatever trash you can, but
keep it brief. Let's call this one A
Sentence Structure. In an attempt to create some kind of
readability despite the requested shortness of the contributions, I
decided to set this one out straight, without the names of
contributors heading their submissions. Instead there is a contributor list which lists in order of
submissions received. If you feel like collating it, go ahead. Knock
yourself out.
- A sudden inspiration while I was writing out this very file! It
hits (though this doesn't necessarily have to be the focus of the
story. Remember, I'm not in charge here, I set it adrift and let it
go as it may) the area of the single greatest potential for lousy
writing: Romance. Have lots of fun with this one. I expect to
read it soon and get physically ill! Let's call it . . . Break of Dawn.
