The following companies are those I’ve worked with that have gone on to better things:
- Layered, Inc. (the first maker of accounting software for MacOS, from 1986 until they closed their doors in 1990. My manuals may still be in use in one form or another by Peachtree Software, who acquired the entire Layered product line)
- Occam Research, Inc. (makers of MUSE, a powerful, multidimensional natural-language data retrieval and analysis program for MacOS and Windows. I edited manuals, wrote manuals, and created basic online help for MUSE.)
- Slate Corporation (makers of pen-based software packages for Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing and the PenPoint operating systems, neither of which is still around)
- Great American Software (makers of the OneWrite PLUS accounting system. This company was acquired a few times, and never shipped the product I was working on.)
- Articulate Systems, Inc. (formerly makers of voice recording and voice control products, then makers of continuous speech-to-text dictation systems for MacOS marketed by Dragon Systems, then absorbed by Dragon Systems, and later by Lernout & Hauspie)
