Tawny's Story...
On Friday, 9/11, I found this stray dog wandering across a very busy intersection, near a fwy onramp. She had no collar and no one was with her. When I called her over, she came right to me and sniffed the back of my hand. She was not afraid and she was quite friendly. She had layers and layers of fleas all over her. I put her in the back of my pick up truck and drove her to safety. I spent a total of $70= on this sweet girl. She had a flea bath and a nail clipping at the groomers, I also bought her a collar. Next on the agenda was a full vet exam. The vet weighed her in at 41 lbs., gave her an oral dewormer, a rabies shot and a parvo shot as well. She was about 10 mos old when I found her. Her brindle coat was very patchy...from the flea infestation. Since I've been fostering her, the coat is coming in quite nicely. I already have 2 other dogs... they're both labs. One is yellow and the other is chocolate. They're both female and are 1 1/2 yrs old. They all get along wonderfully. Tawny loved them and they are quite fond of her as well. Unfortunately, we need to find her another loving home, since my intention was to foster her and in the meantime, find her some decent humans and other dogs to live with. Her temperament is very sweet.
Tawny's Stats:
Sex : Female, unspayed
Age : ~11 mos.
Eyes: brown
Coat: brindle
Nose: light
Ears: floppy (not clipped)
likes: she loves to curl up next to me and sleep. she's a great cuddler. she likes to snack on large carrots. she's got a healthy appetite and her bowel movements are regular.
she still needs to be spayed, housetrained and leash trained. she will come when called. she likes other dogs.
Thanks for your time.

Hi,
I volunteer for an animal rescue group called For Our Friends. We are a non- profit, no kill small rescue group and we now have rescued 5 pitbull mixes and 1 pure breed pup around 8 weeks old. When people hear pitbull or staffordshires they do not even want to give the dog a chance because of the bad rap these poor dogs are getting. i hope you can help us because all of these dogs are veryaffectionate and are very sweet and friendly. they are only difficult to get adopted because of what they are mixed with. We do not have any that are not spayed and neutered. We take care of all the shots, rabies shots, heartworm tested, fecal exam 3 in one shots, we give all the shots up to 1 year. We do not have any problem dogs or biters, they are all friendly. The dogs are boarded at our vet's office at Great Neck, L.I. Please call 718-595-2161. That is our voice mail number for the group. Or call Eileen at 718-229-9302, she is the president of the group..
The first dog is LADY, rescue, female brindle pit/ mix 2 years old. She is housebroken and loves other animals and children. Very gentle dog, 40 lbs. spayed, all shots. She would be a great family companion.
Next we have Bill, a shy, 9 month old neutered male solid black, pit/mix. He would be very happy to be adopted with another dog or to go to a home with another pet. He was left behind as a pup with another female and he is lonely. We always walk him with another dog and he comes to life and is so happy and playful. He was rescued with another female a of course they took the female and left Bill behind. He is a very gentle dog has all his shots, nice family dog.
Then we have Diana, a solid black spayed female, who Bill just loves. It would be ideal if they could be adopted together. She is also a rescue 9 months, very sweet and playful. Bill and Diana are about medium size 40lbs. They have all shots.
Next is Samson, a handsome male brown and white pitbull 10 months old. He is very sweet. He was in a home with 4 kids, adopted at 8 weeks old and returned because he grew up and looked like a pit bull. the people got scared and returned him back after 4 months old. Isn't that horrible? They new what breed he was why do people take animals and return them? At least they did not give him to a shelter. he is neutered, and very gentle, an excellent family dog, he was good with young children, not aggressive at all. He is 35 lbs. he is neutered, he is a great dog. he has all his shots.
We have a pure breed white and black 2 month old pitbull puppy, very, very cute. he is so affectionate and has all his shots.
Then we have Lea, very sweet and gentle 1 year old female spayed, black and white pitbill/pointer mix. She is a wonderful sweet and affectionate female, loves other dogs. She has all her shots, an easy dog to adopt, very well behaved, nice looking dog. she is thin, she needs to be fattened up, she is 40lbs, should gain 10 lbs.
All our dogs are boarded in Great Neck, L.I. in N.Y. Please help us, if it does not work out we take the dogs back at anytime. You can e-mail me at ahess1027, or call our voiuce mail at 718-595-2161.
Thank you very much, Amy

"Felony" is a 6 yr old neutered male brindle & white pitbull terrier. He is good with cats, female dogs, babies, older children, very people oriented, not food agressive, very playful, very curious, good on leash, obedience trained, house broken. Currently he is living in my boarding kennel because his owner cannot keep him where she lives. Her name is Karen and she has final say on where he is placed. Felony is presently in N.H. but his owner will travel to PA, NY, NJ, RI, MA, VT, Ct, to place him in the best home possible. Our goal is to have him settled in a new home for Christmas. I hope you can help.
Thanks, Carol.

This morning a young male pit showed up on my door step. He is very happy and friendly. Wanted nothing but to play with my two dogs and didn't seem too interested in chasing the cats. Brindle in color (white with brown spots). 47 lbs. very healthy. estimated at just less than one year old. taken to animal hospital for boarding. Was given all shots and started on precautionary deworming. Staying at VCA Animal Hospital in Monrovia, CA 626-359-3281. I need to place Pattie. She is a female pit bull, 4 years old, 50 lbs., beige brindle coat. She is incredibly sweet. She loves people, but she hates other dogs. She is very hyper, and a little neurotic. She suffers from panic attacks. She loves to be outside, but she gets scared when it's stormy. She is fixed and has all her shots. She is housebroken, and somewhat trained. With a lot of love and attention, exercise and playtime, and a little training, she could be a really great dog.

Danny and Tank desperately need new homes. They are brothers, but have decided they do not want to live together anymore. Both are 1 year and 3 months old and neutered.Danny's vaccines are due this month.(I will take care of that),Tank"s are due in March.Danny is very big-he weighs over 100 lbs.He has brown eyes,a black nose and is reddish brown.Danny is laid-back and friendly with adults and children. His size is a problem with small children, though. He hates cats and doesn't like strange dogs.He is a little bit stubborn, but well-behaved.Tank is light brown with light brown eyes and a red nose.He weighs approx.80 lbs.Tank is submissive with me and 1 of my other dogs, but goes nuts with any other dogs.HE ABSOLUTELY MUST BE THE ONLY PET YOU HAVE! With people he is generally well-behaved.But he will react to strange noises. He listens to me very well, and is a very loving dog. Both have been raised as house dogs. They are housebroken and crate-trained.I prefer someone in North Carolina, and you will be screened thoroughly. Please e-mail me at LisasZoo@webtv.net

Thank you so much for doing this page! I have never before liked Pits or given them the time of day. However, we found a stray, turned her into animal services and took her back before she was to be euthanized (they do that at 45 days). She is one of the sweetest dogs in the entire world. She is a stray so facts are a little sketchy.
Breed: I think she's pure pit. I met an owner of a pure-bred that looked exactly like her. The other dog was an "Old Family Red-Nosed American Pit Bull Terrier". However, some think she may have a touch of Boxer.
Age: 8 months give or take.
Sex: Female (spayed)
Shots: Up to date on all the basics (they do them at the shelter)
Weight: 45 lbs. Very healthy. Good apetite. Includes: Dog food, pine cones
& shoes.
Best Friend: Makajah a huskey/shepherd/(coyote?) mix. Adorable dog, same
age, female (spayed also). We rescued them together. They were found
together, they are VERY attached but do fine seperately as well. Great
playmates. I'd LOVE to find a home for them together but will seperate them
if there's only an interest for Kailee.
Temperment: Loves everyone. Outgoing. Great family dog. She just adores
people. My brother's been sleeping on the floor so that she can sleep next to
him. She loves to play with ALL other dogs, hasn't had a problem with another
one yet. She's great with kids (I've a 2 year old neice). She is not mean
agressive towards cats but she does enjoy a good chase.
I just really really really want to find a good home for her. However, my time is running out and I'll have to return her to the shelter if I can't find a home for her. She will be put to sleep there. I do however, just adore this dog! (Can't keep her). I want to be careful that she doesn't go to a home of someone that would misuse a Pit.

"Lady Bug" needs a home. My nephew rescued an 18 month-old female from a Northern California shelter about 8 months ago. He can't keep her and is looking for a home for her where she will continue to be cared for. She has all of her shots, is very sweet and gentle, gets along with dogs, cats, kids and grownups. She is champagne colored with brown, black and white spots. She is housebroken and needs some love and attention. Any ideas on how to find a home for Lady? Hi there!!
10/13/98 - New York City
Last night, my boyfriend's sister came home with a 4-month old (approx)
baby boy pit. Very cute, sweet & calm, but malnourished and a little scared
of loud voices and full grown barking pits (my Delmarva). Apparently, his
previous "owner" was a drunk guy in the park who was beating this poor
little guy! (I mean, you should see the FACE on this baby! OH so sweet.) I
would take him in a heartbeat if I thought I had the time to raise a puppy
in addition to Del. We're taking him to the vet today to get him checked
out and cleaned up, but he needs a real mommy and/or daddy to give him a
permanent place....
Please email me at Candice_Belanoff@iqi-inc.com or page me at 888-347-7508
if you have any good ideas!!
Thanks,
Candice

Hello, I don't know if you are still updating your rescue page on the web, but I wanted to let you know... There are four AST mix puppies and their mom, who looks to be around 1-2 years old, at the Seattle Animal Control in Seattle, WA. The puppies are about 7 weeks old, and just being weaned. They are extremely cute; there are 3 brown ones and one dark, sort of brindle-ish one. Two are F and two are M. They seem to be very sweet puppies, but not all of the people at SAC are well informed about them, and when I was there I was cautioned against adopting one of these puppies. Their mother's temperment seems to be good; she barked quite a bit at other dogs in the kennel, but she never initiated a "barking duel." The mother looks quite a bit like Spuds McKenzie. We would love to take one of these puppies home, but we really don't have the time to take care of one. Please help; the mother and babies are all up for adoption beginning, I believe, on Saturday the 17th of October.
Please contact SAC, NOT ME, if you are interested in them. Their phone number is: (206) 386-4260.
HI ! my name is ginger cosner and i do alot if pit bull , american staffordshire terrier , and rottweiler rescue and i have just recently rescued two from the portsmouth animal control that were on a 6 mo. court case ,and they feel in love w/ them and could not bring to their heart to euthanize them so they knew i did rescue and asked me to take them . Of course I did ! They are around the age of 1 year , they love people , kids, and red man loves other dogs, sweet pea was used for fighting so he does not get along with other male dogs , some females ( thats why theywere taken to court , unfortunately they only got a pat on the hand) but, they did`nt get the dogs back thats a plus! anyway i have had them here for 2 mo. and trained basic traini ng and am seeking a good home for them . This is the way I do my contracts is they sign a contract stating there will take care of the animal , no training to fight, no chaining or tiieing to trees etc... , inside dog , no breeding ,they must be neutered before leaving my home, all shots up to date yearly, flea and heartworm preventative monthly. I state clearly that the animal must be taken great care of or I will personally reclaim the animal if not done so....I feel I put alot if time ,training, and rescueing into these animals i do not want to see them come back through the rescue system for which this would defeat my purpose. so i have made sure i have them agree to and sign a legal binding contract. sorry to go on so much but it really breaks my heart to see people to dispose of these breeds like they do ....... anyway these two are sweet hearts and I am e-mailing you to see if maybe you can help me place these two wonderful boys so that i have room to help two other babies. PLEASE if you can help in any way give me a call or e-mail me at gc92968 phone-7578582524.THANK YOU AGAIN .......... MAY GOD BLESS YOUU

Roxie, Dodge City,KS
Roxie is a 1 1/2 year old spayed female APBT or Am Staff. She is spayed, current on her shots, and heartworm negative. She is a super-sweet mama's girl and loves to cuddle. Roxie gets along great with other dogs, male and female, and cats. She likes to wrestle, but mostly wants to snuggle on the couch or in bed. The only potential problem we have had with her is a mild case of separation anxiety. We have been able to avert mass destruction by picking up all shoes, remotes, etc. She is a perfectly striped brindle with a white blaze down her face and white feet and chest. She's about 16 inches tall and 50lbs (she's our little cannonball.)
Roxie was rescued from the animal shelter in Dodge City, Ks in January. My husband and I Have rescued somewhere around 15 dogs and cats in the last 2 years. We recently found out that a bulldog we placed was picked up in a cruelty case and was destroyed at the shelter. For this reason, we are seeking outside help in placing Roxie.

Tuffy is an intact male that was abandoned at a kennel where I train my Border Collies. He has a very sweet disposition, and seems to like other dogs. He does NOT like older men, like a senior citizen. We have no idea how he is with children, but we do know that he likes young adults. The man that left him was 24. Tuffy is mostly white with tan markings. He is beautiful! I 'm pretty sure that he is up to date with his shots or I don't think they would board him where he is. I 'm also pretty sure that since he was abandoned there are no papers. He needs a home quickly, as they need the kennel space. I can't take him here as we have a full house, and I have a bitch ready to whelp in 3 weeks. All I know is that he needs a good home. I walked into that kennel to see him and he was so friendly and sweet. Kai, my pup, went up to his cage, and Tuffy licked his nose. I know nothing about pit bulls except what I have read, all the usual horror stories, but this guy is a sweetie. Please help if you can, I am getting nowhere fast here and time is running out!................

Hi, My name is Angela and I am with the Vanderbugh Humane Society. We have a 6 month old female spayed vaccinated pit bull (cage broken I think). She is tan and white. Im at home right now so Im not sure what her eye color is. She is really sweet but hyper. She has been at the shelter for a month now. (stolen once and found by our investigator the next day) I would like to get her out of the shelter because, unfortunately that breed brings out some really weird people! If you could give me a call at your earliest convenience.

1 and 1/2 year old, male neutered, white pitbull terrier. We acquired Doo at 8 weeks when his original owner brought him to us to repair a homemade ear crop performed with scissors and no anesthesia. At four months, we allowed him to be adopted by a seemingly appropriate home who then gave him up to a young man who neglected him and possibly fought him. Because we work closely with the local humane society, we were able to save Doo from automatic euthanasia when he was picked up at large. He was one year old at the time, and we have been trying desperately for the past six months to find him a suitable home. Because we are a veterinary hospital, he is confined to a run, and we all agree that this is no life for a dog. He is wonderful with people, exuberant and joyful, but could never be trusted around other animals. Doo would make a loyal, loving pet for someone who understands his limitations and can responsibly care for him. He has tested negative for heartworms, is on preventative, and is up to date on his vaccinations. We are located in Laurel, DE, and would welcome correspondence from anyone interested. We do however, require an interview and references, including a veterinarian. Please help us.

On October 13, 1998, we found this young, unaltered male on the street with a broken rope around his neck. He's a black/tan/brown brindle short-hair with a mostly black face. We don't know whether or not he's had any shots. He's very friendly to people but aggressive with our cats. Today he jumped the six foot fence around our yard into the neighbors' yard and attacked their dog. He's hyper, but not a barker and he does listen and try to do what you want him to. I doubt he's had much training, but he walks fine on a leash. He's afraid of the hose, so I think someone used water on him for punishment or whatever. He doesn't chew things to pieces and isn't destructive, but he doesn't chase balls or try to play. We've placed a "found" ad in the O.C. Register, posted signs in the neighborhood and left a notice at the Humane Society. No answers so far. We've had to tie him on a rope so he won't jump the fence again, but keeping him is impossible for us.
Thanks for any help you can give us in finding him a home soon.

Hi. I belong to a group that's called Animal Welfare of Northern Kentucky. We have a situation I hope you can help with.
Dog: Pit Bull Mix Female--Do not know dog's name
Color: Reddish-Beige
Nose & Eye Color: Unknown
Age: 1 1/2 - 2 years
Situation: Was in an abusive situation--observed being kicked and thrown against a wall on more than one occasion--dog finally escaped
Disposition: Gentle and Loving
Not spayed--but Animal Welfare will cover costs and bring vaccinations
up-to-date
Currently being held at Campbell County Animal Shelter, Highland
Heights, KY (we are a "handful" organization and have no building of our
own). Situation is such that the shelter is full and will only agree to
keep her until October 23--they will then put her down.
We are trying desperately to find a home (even foster) for this dog
right now. All of our foster homes are full. We can probably work out
something on a temporary basis but must move this dog out by the 23rd.
Cincinnati, OH (that is the city we are closest is out of the
question--they have a pit bull ban.
Please feel free to call me at 606-356-8417 collect if you think you can help. I have checked the listing for rescue places--most are far away but would be worth it if we can find a home (foster or permanent) for her. Have contacted Friends of Terriers and a few others last night--they have not gotten back to me.
Any help you can give or avenues we can take would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,
Recently I found an abandoned dog just outside the city limits of my town while walking my own dogs. I returned home, left my dogs and returned for the abandoned one. She looks young, but appears to have had puppies at one time. She is very lovable and affectionate towards people, but growls and tries to eat my other dogs. She has a few small abrasions on her ears and legs, and 2 old well healed scars. I'm afraid she may have ben used for fighting or baiting. I would keep her myself if I could de-sensitize her to my dogs but have no experience in that area. I'm looking for a home for her-someone without any other dogs but so far no luck. Do you have any advice? My only propect for a new owner has small children and I'm concerned about that (I would be with any dog but especially this one) Please respond if you have any suggestions. My local rescue source only has a recorded menu option and they have not returned my call.
Thanks,

Hi,
I have acquired a pit bull mix dog from another rescue group here in San Jose, CA. He is approximately 9 months old, neutered, and up to date on all vaccinations. The woman I got him from found him stuck to the tar on a local freeway paving project. He is very good natured around kids and adults, however, he is super destructive when left alone for even short periods. We have two labs, a male and female, and he is becoming increasingly aggressive with them as well. He is house broken, and very good, well disciplined indoors as long as someone is with him.I would like to find him a home, our local humane society will destroy him, and the woman I got him from says she won't take him back.He is white with a few brown spots and approximately 40 lbs.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
